Mauritius Must see places

5 May

After the succes of the Madagascar Must see places article I’m now focusing on a country close to Madagascar but it’s very different. In this article I’m going to highlight the must see places of Mauritius. Mauritius is a country in the Indian Ocean approximately 850km east of Madagascar, Mauritius can be described as the typical tropical island, it’s surrounded by coral reef, has beautiful white sand beaches and the deepest blue water you’ve ever seen. Mauritius is a very popular honeymoon destination but for a normal holiday a travel to Mauritius is also great. We’ll highlight 4 must see places in this article namely Grande Baie, Flic en Flac, Rodrigues and Port Louis. The information is supplied by the Mauritius must see places lens on squidoo.com.

Grande Baie

Grande Baie

Grande Baie
Grande Baie is a town aswell as a bay in northern Mauritius, it’s the most touristic place in Mauritius. The bay has a horseshoe shape and is wellknown for it’s countless restaurants, bars, hotels and night clubs. The water in the bay has a very distinct emerald color and is filled with all kinds of boats and yachts. Grande Baie makes a great destination if you like to combine relaxing on the beach with day trips per boat or even per helicopter. There are a lot of possible activities like diving, snorkling, glas boat trip or visiting one of the smaller islands near Grande Baie.

Flic en Flac

Flic en Flac

Flic en Flac
Flic en Flac is a small town with a very beautiful white sand beach and a blue lagoon. Flic en Flac is more quiet then Grande Baie and there aren’t as much tourists which makes it a great destination for those who like to relax on the beach. Flic en Flac is very popular among surfers because of the relaxed atmosphere and the great waves. It’s also possible to snorkle and dive in the coral reef which surrounds Flic en Flac.

Rodrigues

Rodrigues

Rodrigues
Although Rodrigues is situated 560km east of Mauritius it’s still part of the country of Mauritius. Rodrigues isn’t as well known as Mauritius but it’s certainly as beautiful, Rodrigues is a volcanic island and differs a bit from Mauritius. It doesn’t have as much beaches but the beaches are as beautiful as those in Mauritius. Overall the whole island is more quiet because of the lack of mass tourism. Rodrigues is a great destination for diving and walking vacations.

Port Louis

Port Louis

Port Louis
Port Louis is the capital of Mauritius and is situated on the west coast of the island, it’s also the biggest city on the island with 150.000 inhabitants. Port Louis has a lot to offer like the Champ de Mars horserace course, the Aapravasi Ghat (“The Immigration Depot”) and the Natural history museumwhich showcases the unique flora and fauna of Mauritius. Port Louis is a great day trip destination when you’re staying in Flic en Flac or Grande Baie.
